LinkedIn has no bold button in the post box. Yet you see bold headlines and italic quotes in feeds every day. This guide explains how that works, how to do it in 10 seconds, and when it is smarter to leave your text plain.
The quick way to bold text on LinkedIn
- Open the free LinkedIn text formatter.
- Type or paste the words you want to stand out.
- Press Copy under the bold version.
- Paste it into your post, comment, headline or About section.
That is all. The same tool also gives you italic, bold italic, underline, strikethrough and bullet points.
How it works (and why it is not real bold)
A LinkedIn post is plain text. There is no formatting layer. The bold you see is made of special characters from Unicode, the standard that lists every letter your phone can show. One of its blocks is a set of "Mathematical Sans-Serif Bold" letters that look like bold versions of A to Z. When you paste them, LinkedIn just shows them as text.

When bold text helps
- The first line. A bold hook stands out in a feed of plain text. Pair it with a strong opening, see 5 LinkedIn post hooks.
- Section labels in a long post, like "Step 1" or "The lesson".
- One key phrase you want people to remember.
When to skip it
- Whole paragraphs. Bold everything and nothing stands out. It is also hard to read.
- Accessibility. Screen readers may read styled letters one at a time or skip them. Keep important information in plain text too.
- Search. Styled letters are different characters, so they may not match normal words in search. Do not style your name or the job title you want to be found for.
- Links and hashtags. Styling breaks them. Good tools leave them plain.
Format inside the editor instead
Copying between tools gets old fast. In ViralPosts, bold, italic, lists and links are buttons in the post editor, and a live LinkedIn preview shows exactly how the post will look before you publish or schedule it. See the AI post writer or grab a free post template to start from.
